The Gingerbread Lady
The Story
Neil Simon called this one of his favorite plays. It's a gutsy story that mixes life's dramatic conflicts with wit and comedic overtones. This is very different from his usual comedies.
Evy, a popular singer who hit the skids has just returned home from a stay in rehab. She is greeted by her age-defying best friend Toby, her 17 year old daughter Polly, and her gay actor friend Jimmy, who are there to help her adjust to sobriety while dealing with their own needs and crises. Enter a former lover Lou and Evy's fall off the wagon, and you have a group of misfits living on the razors edge. There is also a small, yet important, part for a 20 year old Spanish delivery boy.
