When Shakespeare's Ladies Meet

Six of the most noted of Shakespeare's heroines convene at the home of Juliet in Verona. They are, in addition to Juliet, Portia from "The Merchant of Venice," Katharine from "The Taming of the Shrew," Desdemona from "Othello," Ophelia from "Hamlet," and Cleopatra from "Antony and Cleopatra." Juliet has fallen in love with Romeo and the other five visit her to instruct her in the art of successfully carrying out her romance. Portia's advice is very legal. Katharine is present to inform Juliet that the ways of the shrew bring results. Desdemona has her tale to tell of how Othello "just smothers her with affection." Ophelia is as mad and dithery as a March hare, and the siren, Cleopatra, imparts her method with the stalwart Antony. But in the end they find that the youthful Juliet can give all of them lessons in love, despite her extreme youth.
