The Players 2004-05

Wendy Almeida
Wendy Almeida appeared in BRT’s productions of  Working, All in the Timing, and Steel Magnolias and also works with Actors' Circle Theatre in Peterborough, NH and  Theatre at the Mount, in Gardner,  MA.
Barb Andrews
Barb Andrews may live in New Hampshire, but says “I love New York and Broadway” which is why she has enjoyed lending a hand to Eric's production again.  Her work has been seen for 20 years in the Monadnock Region.  She taught professionally for 14 years for the New Hampshire Dance Institute (NHDI) in the Westmoreland, Wells Memorial, Franklin and Marlboro Schools, and at Monadnock Regional Junior High School. Last summer she was a roving production staff counselor for Creative Arts at Keene (CAKE) for The Moving Company. For the community she has choreographed 10 Keene Lions Club musicals, most recently The Music Man;  several Raylynmor Opera productions, most recently Ruddigore; and for AIDS Services for the Monadnock Region she has done some guest pieces for their Just Desserts benefits over the last 10 years.  Barbara had the pleasure of updating some prior ensemble pieces for Keene High School's recent musicals Damn Yankees and Fiddler on the Roof. She cherishes with laughter the Act II fight scenes for the Jeff Stout Concepts production of Noises Off as well as guest pieces she has done for the Keene Cheshiremen Barbershop chorus.  Her love of music/theatre/dance was nurtured at a very young age when her father would bring home records from the library and she dreamed of everyone dancing in her head, but the desire to teach was encouraged by friend and mentor,Mario Cossa. All this, with my social work background, has enabled me to reach children and adults at various stages in their life, which is what I find most rewarding.
Mel Andrews is pleased to be part of Back to Broadway. He recently played Oliver Hix in the Keene Lions Club production of The Music Man. Previously, he appeared in the chorus of their productions of Bye Bye Birdie, Hello Dolly and Oklahoma. A singing fool, he keeps active with the Cheshiremen Barbershop Chorus, the St James Church Choir, and numerous appearances with the chorus of the Raylynmor Opera.  For more than five years he has been singing all over the region with the barbershop quartet Junction 1 3 5, most recently during the Jeff Stout Concepts production of The Honeymooners. He is married to the talented choreographer, Barbara, who manages to keep him on his toes.
Mark Armstrong in a scene from
Mark Armstrong is proud to have made his much-anticipated stage debut in the wunnaful Moon Fever last season. He's looking forward to starring in the Broadway production, and, eventually, the movie. He'd especially like  to thank Michael & Liz & Elizabeth for their vocal coaching and their patience during Moon Fever.  Also: George The Monkey for his advice, and his niece Bridget for her inspiration. Mark's a humorous illustrator. He lives in Harrisville with his wife, the famous and beautiful actress Mary Armstrong.
Mary Armstrong
Mary Armstrong has been in past BRT shows that include:   Working (Therese Carter, Housewife); Crimes of the Heart (Chick); Steel Magnolias (Annelle); Box and Cox (as Mr. Cox); and in all the BRT variety and revival shows. She has enjoyed her first-time turn as a Director for Check, Please in BRT's season opener, An Evening of One Acts. She has been active with many music and theater groups in the area including: Raylynmor Opera, Actors' Circle Theater, Keene Lions Club Musicals, Just Desserts, and Keene Chamber Singers. Her two most favorite roles include: Dottie/Mrs. Clackett (Diva Actress/Maid) in Jeff Stout Concepts production of NOISES OFF! (done in October 2003 and September 2004); and Agnes Gooch (the earnest, but unsophisticated nanny), in Keene Lion's Club production of Mame in February, 2004. She lives in Harrisville with her supportive and multi-talented husband Mark, the man with the “mahvelous” laugh. With her trusty guitar, she regularly directs the music at St Denis Church in Harrisville.  During the day, she works in Information Technology at NGM in Keene, NH.
Henry Balzarini in a scene from
Henry Balzarini, born of comfortably humble beginnings in a midburb just outside of Boston. Abigail Bond is happy to be making her theatrical debut on the Branch River Theatre stage in Back to Broadway.  Move over, mom, this stage is big enough for the both of us!!!  Abby is eight years old and in the second grade at the Fuller School in Keene.  Other than her recent interest in the theatre, she enjoys swimming, art, soccer and taking hip- hop dance at The Moving Company in Keene, where she was most recently seen as a donkey in their production of Pinocchio.  You can also hear her as the voice of the little girl in the Monadnock Community Hospital commercials on the radio.
Jennifer Bond
Jennifer Bond has been acting for as long as she can remember.  As a child her mother affectionately nicknamed her Sarah Heartburn.  As such, she decided to channel her drama queen tendencies and minor in Theatre Arts at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge.  Locally you may remember Jennifer from such Branch River Theatre shows, including My Three Angels (Marie Louise), Selections From Working (Sharon Atkins, the nearly suicidal receptionist), Bus Stop (Cherie), On Broadway (Marian the Librarian in The Music Man and Sandy in Grease).  Jennifer was most recently seen in the Jeff Stout Concepts production of The Honeymooners as Trixie Norton.  But she is perhaps most famously (and definitely least clothed) remembered for her role in the Jeff Stout Concepts production of Noises Off as Brook/Vicki.  She also very much enjoyed playing the role of Mary Tart in the AIDS Services benefit, Just Desserts X and Just Desserts X Encore!  Jennifer is happy to be returning to the BRT stage, and sharing the spotlight with her daughter, Abigail (because apparently, drama queen tendencies are genetic).  When not on the stage, she enjoys playing the role of “mommy” to her two beautiful, amazing, brilliant daughters, Abigail and Lily, and is employed by the Monadnock Radio Group, where you may recognize her voice when she transforms into her alter-ego, known as J-Bo.  Jennifer lives in Keene with her husband Matt (genius set designer and budding thespian) and daughters.  Abby, YOU GO GIRL!!!
Matt Bond in a scene from
Matt Bond has spent the last few years beating back the hoards of theater geeks who've been trying to convince him to step out from behind the scenes and try his hand at acting. He's helped design and build sets for Bus Stop, On Broadway, Noises Off!, Just Desserts, The Honeymooners and yes, Love, Sex and the I.R.S. After buckling under the pressure he decided to audition and frankly, it's changed his life. No longer is he the anonymous dork with the tool belt. He is not the jerk with the over inflated ego and the bevy of slack-jawed followers. He'd like to thank his lover wife Jennifer (a theater diva in her own right) and his two beautiful daughters Abigail and Lily for their undying love and support. Let the games begin!
Mary Bush
Mary Bush, originally from St. Louis, Missouri, recently made her first appearance on stage with BRT in the Just Desserts X Encore, and now makes her acting debut in an Evening Of One Acts. Kelly Choate is 8 years old, and is a 2nd grader at Wheelock Elementary School. Kelly has been in the Lions Club productions of Mame and The Music Man, as well as a Christmas play at school. In school, Kelly likes to play with her best friend Kayla at recess, and she LOVES math! Outside of school she likes to enjoy a game of badminton.  Kelly is very, very happy to be participating in Back to Broadway, and hopes you enjoy the show.

C.J. Cummings is absolutely thrilled to be one of the Back to Broadway cast - truly a pleasure to perform with the most talented and generous people in the area. Her love of music, drama, comedy, and, of course, the appreciation of the audience keeps her coming back for more. Not to mention the all the fun and lifelong friendships made along the way! In the daytime, her “real” life working full time as an insurance agent in Brattleboro, VT keeps her in nylons and out of bread lines. When not rehearsing for a play or musical, she usually can be found tending her flower garden or giving the house a makeover. She wishes to thank her husband and dearest friend, Tommy, for his support and love. And her little cairn terrier, Ripley, for her enthusiastic greetings no matter what time she finally gets home from rehearsals!

He played Charles in Blythe Spirit the lead in The Haunting of Hill House, and was in numerous other shows including Fireman's Flame. After a 27 year drought, he appeared with the Keene Lions Club Mame as the boorish Claude Upson as well as a couple of disguised cameos. Remembering how much he loved the stage and wondering why it took so long to come back, he jumped right into AIDS Services production of Just Desserts X. There he sang and danced a variety of numbers including "The Full Monty". Taking it (almost) all off prepared him for what you will see in tonight's number from “The Producers"! Dean most recently was in the Lions Club show, Music Man, as Constable Locke. Dean is the owner of the best kitchen store you have ever been in, Your Kitchen Store & More in Colony Mill Marketplace. Shop locally owned!!! On Sundays he is the Worship Leader at the Stoddard Congregational Church. He is also an advocate and speaker for organ donation. Give the gift of life! To my patient wife, Carol - I chewed up 2 of your birthdays and one of mine while chewing up the stage. Thanks, BB. I owe you!

(He, also was in Mame) Cindy wishes to that everyone in the B2B cast and crew, especially for the added participation in the dinner theatre aspect of the show. As well as her family for their continual support, and her best friend and “personal stylist”, Sheila! “I couldn't have done this without you, W1!” This performance is dedicated to Christopher Lavely who “took me to Sweeney Todd and believed in my voice,” and to Tina for all the Pearl Jam concerts, beautiful music and friendship. From the Antrim Players to the Wild Nightz Band and with Love Sex and the IRS. Gary has enjoyed assuming a wide variety of roles and responsibilities. Her stage debut was in ACT's The Wizard of Oz where she portrayed a tree and a variety of others inanimate objects. She is coming into her own, as opposed to when she played an alter ego in BRT's At the Punch Bowl. Most of her productions have taken place within schools, but her role of Ophelia a.k.a. Phelly in When Shakespeare's Ladies Meet will be her third production with BRT. Susan MacNeil
Susan MacNeil last appeared on stage as an actor in (gulp) 1985 with the Marlow Players, so it's been a while.  In her role as the Executive Director for AIDS Services for the Monadnock Region, Susan has had the pleasure of working with many BRT cast members in agency fundraisers such as “Just Desserts.” Now it's time to return the favor and have some fun with a very comical, politically incorrect, take-no-prisoners role.

Sharon McHugh has been with BRT since it was created as a spin-off from Keene Community Theatre in the last century ... well, over  22 years ago! With the exception of acting on stage, she has worked in every capacity, as  Props and Stage Managers, Set Construction, Refreshments, etc. and has been a past President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of BRT. Sharon has directed numerous BRT shows such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Dracula, The Haunting of Hill House, Fractured Shakespeare and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe  and most recently When Shakespeare's Ladies Meet and produced many, many more. Currently, she acts as the Lighting Director for BRT and has worked lights for Vermont Theatre Company, AIDS Services Just Desserts, Actor's Circle Theater and Jeff Stout Concepts, to name just a few. When she doesn't have to commute back and forth to RI for work she hopes to do more directing (and having a life!)
John McMahon
John McMahon marks his eleventh performance with BRT’s production of Love, Sex and the I.R.S. He was last seen on the BRT stage in Bus Stop, Working and in All in the Timing. He has also performed in several Keene Lion’s Club shows. John is a teacher at the Keene Middle School and lives in Keene with his wife Margaret. John is happy to again be playing Floyd Skinner in Love, Sex and the I.R.S. His 1st performance for BRT was as Mr. Spinner. "It was fin then and it still is a fun play. And this run, I'm sure, will have better audiences."

R. David Murray
R. David Murray made his stage debut with American
Dreams: Lost and Found. In addition to these occasional
stage forays, David sings with the Keene Cheshiremen Barbershop
Chorus, does computer, networking, Unix, and Internet consulting,
and tries to spend enough time outside, away from the keyboard,
to keep in shape. He also does the odd sound support and camera
operator gig, and is an aspiring writer. Should be enough to keep
anyone busy, eh?

Abigail Myre has been involved with a couple of short plays through her church - most recently she played Mary - Mother of Jesus (which was the lead).  She's been in NHDI performances with Wheelock school the last two years. She is thrilled to be a part of Back to Broadway and her mom and dad are very proud of her.

Bill can be currently in seen in BRT's production of Spoon River Anthology.
Debbie Pickering
Debbie Pickering made her debut as director for Love, Sex and the IRS.  This year Debbie has challenged herself by learning what goes on behind the scenes and taking a respite from acting. Most recently she was the Stage Manager for The Music Man and was surprised to discover how much she enjoyed the role.  Still a performer at heart, she continues to perform with her fiancée', Gary, in the Wild Nightz Band and to be involved in community fundraising efforts such as Just Desserts for AIDS Services.  She sends Love to the 4 L's in her life.
Nancy Preus
Nancy Preus knows that the draw of the stage is never ending for those that love to act. She has been lucky enough to find a little bit of time to fulfill that dream for the last thirty-six years. It's still a wonder to her to bring words and characters to life and a pleasure to work with all kinds of casts. The theater is truly her home away from home. The shows have been numerous, the parts large or small but always, always enjoyable. She has been lucky to do several shows with BRT, such as Selections from Working, American Dreams and Spoon River Anthology.
Lydia Price recently performed in the Lions Club Production of The Music Man, and decided to follow co-director Eric Walther to Back to Broadway. Her first show was dancing with the Raylynmor Opera's production of Iolanthe. She has since performed with the Moving Company in Guys & Dolls, The Wizard of Oz and Bye, Bye, Birdie. She is excited to do her first dinner theater show and appreciates all she is learning from her fellow performers and is particularly excited about the opportunity to choreograph her first piece under the guidance of Barb Andrews. Lydia is a 7th grader at Keene Middle School where she plays clarinet in the band and resides in Harrisville with her sister and parents.
Jeff Repko
Jeff Repko has been on the board of Branch River Theatre for a number of years and has appeared in several productions most recently in the hysterical, and highly successful production of Love, Sex and the IRS. Along with acting, he constructs many of the sets for BRT shows. Jeff is a member of the Keene Lions Club and has appeared in their last 10 productions. You have recently seen him in Monadnock Regions Aid Services production of Just Desserts in which he co-directed with Debbie Pickering. He works for Imagistics International in Keene, as a sales representative, employs Jeff; so if anyone is looking to purchase a copier, give him a call!
Cristen Rosinski has been involved in theatre for as long as she can remember, from Easter Pageants and Drama Camp to the present. Since then, Cristen has been involved in many productions in the area as an actress, stage manager, and co-producer. She is currently Secretary on the Board of Trustees for the Vermont Theatre Company. Her credits as an actress include: Twelve Angry Jurors (Juror #4), Romeo and Juliet (Lady Montague), A Comedy of Errors (Adrianna), Spike Heels (Lydia), Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre (Various Roles), The Taming of the Shrew (Katherina), and most recently in a role as an autistic male in Agatha Christie's The Unexpected Guest. She is happy to be a part of Back to Broadway, her second production under the direction of Eric Walther. She hopes the audience has fun watching the performance, and would like to thank Eric for giving her the opportunity to stretch her acting wings. Thanks also go to her family and friends for supporting and encouraging her great love of the arts.

Since then she has been involved in several productions including: The Nutcracker, On Broadway, and Guys and Dolls Jr. Hannah enjoys craft projects, ballet, singing and costume design.
Wilson Rousell is a fifth grader at Chesterfield Middle School. He enjoys playing video games and his saxophone. He began his stage career in The Nutcracker and returns to the stage for Back to Broadway. Wilson has just successfully participated in "Destination Imagination," highlighting his improv abilities! When Wilson is all grown-up he would like to be a Marine Biologist in order to combine his love of nature and swimming.
Susan Schneider in a scene from
Susan Schneider “Don't be ordinary”  - that's Susan and her husband Steffen's motto. Consequently, they decided to try out something new and in 2002 moved from Germany to New Hampshire. They still like the adventure of the “USA” and will stay in the area until they are tired of pancakes and the long NH winters. When Susan is not working or at rehearsals she is quite busy taking care of her wild little girl, Emily Hannah, who is 18 months old. Back to Broadway is Susan's 3rd appearance in a BRT production. She could be seen in Spoon River Anthology last fall and the comedy Love, Sex and the IRS in April 2005. She is very excited to be part of the Back to Broadway cast since this type of show is a totally new experience for her and filled with so much energy.
Lisa Seelen, an elementary school teacher by day, has been singing with her students in one form or another since she began teaching 25 years ago. After chauffeuring her two sons to countless auditions, rehearsals, and performances over the years, she decided to try the stage herself, participating in the 2005 Lions Club production of The Music Man. Her husband, John, has always thought of her as a star.
Susan Silver is a native of Marlborough, NH, though has left the area for warmer climes several times, always to return. She was in Marlborough Federated Church's Variety Shows in the '90's but her "big" stage debut was as a Pick-a-Little Lady in the 2005 Lion's Club production of The Music Man. It was such rollicking great fun that Sue decided to come out for Back to Broadway. Most days, you will see Sue "acting" nice to her customers at the Bank of New Hampshire. She lives in Keene now in her "empty nest."
Eric Snare in a scene from
Eric Snare is a wandering troubadour, sometime poet, sometime joker, ofttimes an actor and aspiring writer. In his pursuit of theatre, he has gotten to bring briefly to life his dreams of adventure on the high seas, make use of his Irish accent, and teach middle and high school students about HIV/AIDS through an education piece called Inner Circle. In addition, he has worked with Acting Out of Keene for roughly five years, and has just recently discovered a passion for writing. He is thrilled  to participate in Spoon River Anthology, and looks forward to many more!
Shelby Stanton is a sixth grader at Marlborough Middle School. She has acted in several Moving Company plays and on Sundays she's part of the children's choir at the Federated Church of Marlborough. Her theatre work includes Guys and Dolls, Suessical and Honk, Jr. In her free time Shelby plays piano and flute. Summer nights you will find her behind the backstop at a Swampbat game with Grampa Watterson.
Nancy Stephens
Nancy Stephens will be making her first appearance with BRT in When Shakespeare's Ladies Meet as the second of the three acts in An Evening of One Acts. She is a recent transplant from PA and has performed mainly in various Philadelphia theatres and with City Theatre in Wilmington, DE. Some of her credits include Buried Child, Richard III, The Trail of Anna Freud, Murder Mystery Theatre, Children's Classics Theatre, and a long run with Line, which toured Belgium, England, Quebec and Aruba. She has also performed with the zany comedy troupe Duck's Breath Mystery Theatre in San Francisco.
Mark Tanzer's interest in theater and singing started later in life as he followed his daughter through her Middle & High school years as she got involved in school theatre and church choir. One thing led to another (usually preceded by “Come on Dad, you can do it”) and now he has a hobby. Over the years Mark has participated, at various times, as a tenor in the Hillsboro-Deering Mens Chorus and the Keene Chorale. He has been an active tenor in the Hillsboro-Deering Community Chorus and Smith Memorial Congregational Church Senior Choir since 1998 as chorus member and soloist. Mark is hoping that over time he will actually be able to remember enough words from a song to be able to sing it completely while in the shower. Mark's first theater role was with the Hillsboro-Deering High School Drama Club 2000 production of A Christmas Carol filling the roles of narrator, gentleman, and Ghost of Christmas Present. Currently he is a member of the Board of Directors for the Hillcat Summer Theater and acting Treasurer. As part of the Hillcat Summer Theater he has performed the roles of Mr.MacAfee in the 2003 production of Bye, Bye Birdie and Tevye in the 2004 production of Fiddler on the Roof. His most recent role was in the Keene Lions Club 2004 production of The Music Man as a salesman (whaddya talk!), townsperson, and member of the orchestra chorus. Mark lives in Hillsborough, NH and works for NGM in Keene, NH. He is grateful to his wife, best friend, and biggest supporter Sharon for having many late dinners, hosting cast parties, and putting up with his odd behavior frequently associated some vocal or theater endeavor, and for her ability to know the right words to the songs he is trying to memorize. Many thanks to Eric Walther for bringing Mark along for the excitement of “Broadway Again” and to Barb Andrews for her patience in teaching him simple dance steps (he can be taught!).
Carin Torp make's her Branch River Theatre debut with Back to Broadway. She has been dancing since birth (at least) and singing since shortly thereafter. Her most recent local performances
were in Frippery's Everyman's Circus in Dublin and last year as choreographer and jitterbug in The Wizard of Oz with the Actor's Circle Theatre.
Elise Truttling in a scene from
Elise (Lisa) Cannon Truttling made her first appearance at Branch River Theatre in Moon Fever but she's not new to the stage. Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, Nellie in South Pacific, and Mame are several of the roles she auditioned for but did not land. You may recognize Lisa as 3rd from the left in Baker Elementary School's Puss In Boots, and Dead Body in Wait Until Dark. While waiting for the phone to ring Lisa writes children's books including Bertie and the Magic Biscuit Box, and Harry the Not-So-Scary. She is suspicious, however, that she was cast for Spoon River Anthology simply because of her pasty-white fit right into the whole dead-person scheme. She would like to thank her long time friend Joseph Prelas for holding down the fort and keeping her six-year-old daughter Olivia, company. Also, gratitude to Olivia for letting Mommy have some mommy-time … you are a little person with a gigantic heart!
Eric Walther
Eric Walther in his earlier years was Emcee to the well-known talent show at my home church in NY. He however built a dramatic wall around himself in high school until an audition his sophomore year. He sang, “There is no business like Show Business” in auditions for Annie Get Your Gun. Two days later a snowstorm had created a roof collapse in the auditorium and the musical was cancelled. Never the less, he assured himself that the roof incident was not in collaboration with his vocal experimenting that year. The following year he landed a solo part as Sasha in Fiddler on the Roof and the male lead John Truitt in Meet Me in St. Louis senior year. He has collectively in 10 years created a portfolio of programs, write-ups, ticket stubs and a BA in Theatre from Keene State. In between the grease paint, roars of laughter from the crowd, a few tears and some tomatoes (but only in his grand-mother Johanna's pasta sauce), he has developed a life in Keene helped by a job at C&S Wholesale Grocers. He resides in Maple Acres (AKA- “Stage West”) with the Ticket & Reservations Chairman Dana Corliss and her two boys Logan and Trevor. He considers himself lucky to live close to Steve Hamel's Wife and the Hamel family, Sweeney Todd and Anne, Jeff Stout Concepts and Wendy and next door to our Ragtime Evelyn Nesbit's brother-in-law Dave Bond. In past years he was President of my class at KSC and director of 4 BRT shows including On Broadway, this shows predecessor. He has ventured to Vermont to direct an Agatha Christie show, performed in 8 Keene Lions Club shows, assistant directing this years; The Music Man. In my 30th production in either acting or directing, Back to Broadway will mark my sheer love of the “Great White Way” and New York. Thank you to those who made me who he is today: my mother, my father, my brother, grandmothers, extended family and friends up and down the street.
Amanda Warman
Amanda Guthorn Warman marks her fifth BRT production with this seasons Evening of One Acts. She's appeared in BRT's American Dreams: Lost and Found, The Sherman and Jeff Comedy Revue, Chamber Music, and On Broadway.  She's appeared in the Lions Club productions of Oklahoma! and South Pacific and appeared in The Vagina Monologues at Keene State College as part of the V-Day Initiative, a national campaign to end violence against women. Among her earlier (MUCH earlier) theatrical credits are the role of Aldonza/Dulcinea in The Man of LaMancha, May Peterson in Bye Bye Birdie, Mrs. Higgins in My Fair Lady, the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz, and Katisha in The Mikado.  Amanda works at Keene State College and thanks her very patient husband Don for supporting her indulgence in the limelight.
